Number of international airline passengers in May 2022
According to the information compiled by the Tourism Databank, which specializes in tourism statistics and analysis, from DHMI and AENA data, the gap in international passenger traffic between Turkey and Spain is closing in the 5-month period of 2022. While Spain received 34 million more international passengers in 2019, the revival in Turkey reduced this gap to 23 million in 2022.
Number of international departure and arrival passengers
Competing in Mediterranean tourism, Turkey and Spain are returning to their 2019 tourism values in 2022. While both countries revived especially in foreign airline passenger traffic, the gap in favor of Spain narrowed.
In the 5-month period of 2022, international passenger traffic in Spain increased to 52.1 million. In 2019, Spain served 67.6 million passengers.
During this period, line passenger traffic in Turkey increased to 28.4 million. In 2019, Turkey served 33.7 million passengers.
Thus, the difference in international flights has decreased from 34 million to 23 million.
