7 nominees for the European Smart Tourism Capital

The European Commission has announced the seven finalist cities that will be the European Capitals of Smart Tourism for 2023 among the candidates from the European Union and non-EU countries participating in the COSME program for the Competitiveness of Companies and SMEs.

Spain in first place

7 candidates have been determined for the European Capital of Smart Tourism. Competing with Denmark, Cyprus, Portugal and Croatia, Spain has the most candidate cities.
The winning destinations will receive support throughout 2023 in the areas of communication and branding, as well as promotion and advertising, with actions specially designed to raise the international profile of the award-winning cities and increase the number of visitors.

About the European Capital of Smart Tourism

The European Capital of Smart Tourism is an EU initiative currently funded by the COSME program that aims to promote this type of tourism by rewarding cities for their innovative approaches to accessibility, digitization, sustainability and cultural heritage and creativity. The winners of previous years were Helsinki and Lyon (2019), Malaga and Gothenburg (2020) and Valencia and Bordeaux (2022).
