In the January-November period of 2022, the number of tourists visiting Istanbul increased by 84.4% from 7.98 million to 14.71 million.

Istanbul Approached 15 Million Tourists in 11 Months

According to the data received by the Tourism Databank, the tourism statistics center, by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the number of tourists visiting Istanbul in the January-November period of 2022 increased by 84.4% from 7.98 million to 14.71 million. The city hosted 13.77 million tourists in 2019.

Situation in Istanbul’s main tourist markets

In 2022, in Istanbul, which received the most foreign tourists in Turkey, the most tourists were obtained from Russia, which reached 1.31 million. 1.15 million people were reached from Germany, their second largest market, and 1.01 million people from Iran. They were followed by the USA, England, France, Iraq and Kuwait. Ukraine was the only major market in Istanbul tourism, which contracted by 39%.
