Despite inflation, the energy crisis, the war in Ukraine and the rise in travel prices, Europeans’ desire to take a vacation continues to increase.
According to the ETC study, 70% of searches are planning a trip in the fall or winter, while the desire to travel is particularly strong for those aged 45-54 and over 55.
Despite inflation, the energy crisis, the war in Ukraine and the rise in travel prices, Europeans’ desire to take a vacation continues to increase.
60% of respondents plan to travel within Europe. The most popular destination for this fall and winter is France. It is followed by Spain and Italy. Germany, Greece and Croatia also top the list.

Worries and travel spending
In contrast, 23% of European travelers are concerned about the cost of travel. Another 17% are uncomfortable with the effects of inflation on their personal finances.
32% of Europeans whose travel budgets have not changed much plan to spend between 501 and 1000 Euros per person on their next trip (including accommodation and transportation costs). But vacation times are getting shorter: preferences for 3-night vacations rose from 18% to 23%, while the propensity to travel for 7 or more nights decreased from 46% to 37%.
Germans and Austrians will usually spend between €501 and €1000 per person on the trip. Poles, Dutch and Swiss are also likely to spend over 2000 €.
Travel status of young people
On the other hand, according to the findings, the intention to travel remained lower among Gen Z (18 to 24) despite the increase in all age groups. By contrast, Europeans over the age of 45 plan to travel the most in the next six months.
