What did Ryanair want from Greece?

Eddie Wilson, CEO of budget airline Ryanair, has announced that they want to invest more in Greece, if certain conditions are met. However, the company had previously suspended operations in Athens and Chania (Crete) for the winter.

Stating that they received insufficient service in Greece, Wilson emphasized that while they serve 50 million passengers in Italy and approximately 50 million passengers in Spain, they serve 6 million passengers in Greece.

He pointed to the fees

Ryanair’s CEO said airport fees are too high for companies like Ryanair to invest in. The biggest problem is the winter season fees.
The costs of regional airports and Athens airport, Wilson said, “when you bring in more passengers, we will have a lower cost per passenger. We want to invest in Greece in the long term, not only for this winter, but for all winters. In this way, we can bring passengers not only to Athens, but also to Chania, Corfu, Rhodes, the Ionian Islands, Volos and other places.”
